“Radiopharmacy” is a branch of the profession that involves manufacturing and supply of safe and effective radiopharmaceuticals (a drug which is labelled with radioactive isotope) used for the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of patients with cancer and/or other diseases such as myocardial diseases.
*The radiopharmaceuticals might be categorized into:
- Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals: also divided into two subcategories:
- Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) such as 99mTc, 111In, and 67Ga radiopharmaceuticals.
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) such as 18F, 11C, and 68Ga radiopharmaceuticals.
- Therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals: which might be subdivided mainly into α emitters such as 225AC and β emitters such as 131I and 90Y.
